HISTORY OF DAVIDSON DRUGS

John B. Davidson vividly remembers 1958 when he opened the first drugstore on Siesta Key. He swept the sidewalk in front of his business at 8:30 every morning and closed up himself every evening at 9:00. For five years he worked 80 hours a week, even operating the soda fountain. Some said his business would never survive on the sparsely populated Siesta Key, which many believed would never develop. But they were wrong.

Today, John Davidson has four thriving stores located throughout Sarasota and more than 100 employees. His is the oldest established drugstore under the same continuous ownership in Sarasota. Two of Davidson's sons, Richard and Robert, help operate the family business today.
